Under this policy, children in between the age of 5 and 14 are required to use KLM's unaccompanied minor service. Children between the age of 15 to 17 can opt for the Unaccompanied Minor service, but that is optional for them. However, for children who are below 5 years of age, they have to travel with an adult whose age must be 18 years or older than that. 

How Do I Book an Unaccompanied Minor Service At KLM?


There is no hard and fast rule to book the unaccompanied minor service. All you need is to directly contact the KLM customer support team for availing the option. Second,  you can contact any third party agent to get the job done for you. Please note, you can book the service at least 24 hours before the flight departure time. You will have to share the complete details to avail the service, including the contact details, name and phone number of the adult who is helping the child at the boarding time or who is going to receive him or her at the arrival airport.

If any parent or guardian opt for the Unaccompanied Minor program, then they have to pay the unaccompanied minor fees along with the regular ticket fare. The fee goes like this. For nonstop flights it can go in between $150 to $200. If there is a connecting flight, then the cost can go up to $250 to $350.

  • Once the unaccompanied minor fee is paid then it can't be refunded back.

  • At the time of check-in at the airport, proof of the child's age must be provided such as a birth certificate or passport.

  • As per the KLM Unaccompanied Minor Policy, it is the parent's or guardians responsibility of dropping off and picking the child on arrival of the flight.

  • The child's parents must bring the child to the airport at least 45 hours before the flight departure time. And they must stay there until the flight takes off.
