American Airlines Infant Policy

234

Each and every airline has a set of rules and policies for the children travelling alone. So does American Airlines. As per the American Airlines Infant Policy, there are a couple of things that every parent or guardian must know before booking a flight for their child. As a little misinformation can cost your time and money at the same time. Here's what you need to know about flying on American airlines with your kids.

Traveling with Infants and Children’s

American Airlines is very careful regarding children's safety and security. That's why they ensure your children have a positive experience during travel. It is the responsibility of a guardian or parent to check in on time and keep the required ID documents. Parents must provide proof of the child's date of birth for those under the age of 18.

Travelling With a Lap Child

You have three options to add a lap infant to your American Airlines reservation:

  1. Online Booking: Add an “infant in lap” on the Passenger Details page when booking your flight.

  2. Update Existing Reservation: If your reservation is already made, visit aa.com, locate your trip, go to the Passengers section, and select “add a lap infant.”

  3. Phone Call: Call AA Reservations at 800-433-7300 to add your infant to your booking or dial +1-866-410-8128 for quick support.

Please note, infants younger than 7 days old cannot fly on American Airlines.

Priority Boarding for Families with Toddlers

Please note, AA may notify families with children aged 2 and under to arrive early at the gate. Additionally, only one carry-on diaper bag is permitted per child.

Seating Policy

When booking a flight for a specific destination, be sure to reserve seats for you and your children. If you forget to select seats together, American Airlines’ family seating policy will ensure that children under 15 years old are seated next to you.

If you're traveling with a baby, you might want to request a bassinet. American Airlines provides bassinets on select aircraft, including the 777-200, 777-300, and 787. These are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are not offered in first or business class.

How To Add An Infant To Your Trip

If you're traveling within the U.S. or to Puerto Rico, you can add an infant to your trip either during the booking process on aa.com or after your ticket is issued. For infants under 7 days old or if your journey is international (where taxes and a portion of the adult fare may apply), you will need to contact Reservations.

Documents Required For International Travel

If there are children on the plane who have booked a flight to travel outside the U.S., they must provide valid documents similar to those required for adult passengers. If an infant under the age of 18 is flying internationally alone, they are required to present a letter of consent.
