195

Aer Lingus baggage allowance policy provides passengers with flexible options for purchasing baggage allowances. By purchasing your baggage allowance online while booking a flight , you can save up to 50% on baggage fare. Updates to the carry-on baggage policy for European routes will take effect on June 29, 2021, applying to all passengers regardless of when their ticket was booked.

Aer Lingus Baggage Allowance Policy

Aer Lingus Carry-on baggage allowance:

  • According to Aer Lingus baggage allowance  passengers are  permitted  one carry-on bag not exceeding 22lb/10kg or 55cm x 40cm x 24cm on Aer Lingus flights and 15lb/7kg or 48cm x 33cm x 20cm on Aer Lingus Regional flights.

  • Additionally, one personal item such as a laptop or small handbag not exceeding 25cm x 33cm x 20cm is permitted.

  • Lap infants (below 2 years) do not have a carry-on baggage allowance.

  • Starting from June 29, 2021, passengers traveling on routes within Europe must purchase the Carry-on bag with priority boarding option or check it in for free at the airport. Bringing a carry-on bag to the gate without purchasing the option will incur a fee of €35.

Aer Lingus Checked Baggage Allowance:

  • Within Europe, Saver fare passengers must purchase checked baggage, while Plus, Advantage, and AeroSpace fare passengers are allowed 44lb/20kg of check bags.

  • On transatlantic flights, Saver fare passengers must purchase checked baggage, Economy Smart/Flex fare passengers are allowed one bag x 50lb/23kg, and Business/Business Flex fare passengers are allowed three bags x 50lb/23kg each.

  • Each checked bag's combined dimensions (length + width + height) must not exceed 158cm (62in), and the maximum weight per bag is 70lb/32kg.

  • Passengers traveling together on the same booking can combine their baggage allowances.

  • If you booked your ticket through a travel agent, inquire with them about your baggage allowance.

Aer Lingus Cabin Baggage Allowance

The Aer Lingus cabin baggage policy allows each passenger to bring one carry-on bag and one personal item on board, with specific size and weight restrictions. On Aer Lingus flights, the carry-on bag limits  must not be larger that dimensions of 55cm x 40cm x 24cm and a weight of 22lb/10kg, on the other hand  on Aer Lingus Regional flights, the dimensions must on not be more than 48cm x 33cm x 20cm and a weight of 15lb/7kg.

Passengers now have two options for carrying their 22lb/10kg carry-on bag:

  1. Purchase the Carry-on bag with priority boarding option or have it included in their booking. This option is provided for AerClub Silver, Platinum, Concierge members (excluding their companions), Plus, Advantage, and AeroSpace fare passengers, adult passengers with infants, and passengers connecting to/from transatlantic or interline partner flights.

  2. If passengers do not book  the priority boarding option, they can still bring their carry-on bag, but it must be left  at check-in without additional charge. Bringing the luggage to the gate without purchasing the option will result in a fee of €35, and the luggage will be placed in the aircraft hold.

Overall, while the cabin baggage policy remains largely unchanged for transatlantic flights, passengers flying within Europe now have additional options for carrying their carry-on bags, with priority boarding being a convenient choice for certain passengers.

Aer Lingus Carry-on luggage Rules

According to Aer Lingus baggage allowance policy when traveling on a connecting flight from Aer Lingus to Aer Lingus Regional, the stricter carry-on allowance of 15lb/7kg will apply to both segments of the journey. All passengers must be capable of stowing their carry-on bags in the overhead bins without assistance.

There are circumstances where your carry-on bag may need to be checked into the hold:

  1. When space is limited in the cabin.

  2. If the bag exceeds the specified weight and/or dimensions.

Place smaller bags under the front seat and larger ones in the overhead bins. Passengers seated in the first row or at emergency exits must also store their baggage in the overhead bins.

Your carry-on allowance may vary if your itinerary involves travel with another airline. Additionally, all carry-on items must adhere to regulations regarding liquids, aerosols, and gels, especially for flights departing from the United States in compliance with TSA rules.

Lap infants are not entitled to a carry-on allowance. However, assistive or medical devices such as wheelchairs, crutches, canes, and walkers are exempt from the cabin baggage limit and can be carried free of charge.

Checked Baggage Allowance

According to Aer Lingus baggage allowance policy for flights within Europe, Aer Lingus offers different checked baggage allowances based on the fare type purchased.

Passengers traveling on Saver fares do not receive a free checked baggage allowance and must purchase it separately. However, those traveling on Plus, Advantage, or AeroSpace fares are eligible to check one bag weighing up to 44lb/20kg, with the option to purchase additional baggage by weight. Infants are allowed one fully collapsible stroller/buggy and a travel cot/booster seat/car seat.

On transatlantic routes, passengers with Saver fares must purchase checked baggage separately, while those with Economy Smart/Flex fares are permitted one bag weighing up to 50lb/23kg. Business/Business Flex fare passengers enjoy the most generous allowance, with three bags each weighing up to 50lb/23kg. Infants traveling on transatlantic flights are entitled to a checked baggage allowance of 22lb/10kg, along with the same allowance for strollers/buggies and travel cots/booster seats/car seats.

Booking checked baggage online is significantly cheaper than purchasing it at the airport, with discounts of up to 50% available. Each  Aer Lingus checked baggage size  must not exceed 158cm (62in) in combined dimensions, and the weight limit is 70 lb/32 kg per bag. Passengers traveling on the same booking and checking in together can pool their baggage allowances. Bags can be booked online up to 2 hours before departure, either at the time of booking the flight, through Manage Trip later, or during the check-in process. However, online booking of baggage is only available for tickets booked directly through AerLingus.com; passengers who booked through a travel agent must contact them directly to arrange baggage booking.

Weight Concept Flights (within Europe)

As per Aer Lingus baggage allowance policy passengers traveling within Europe on an Economy Saver fare have four options available for purchasing checked baggage. These options provide flexibility based on the weight and number of bags passengers wish to check in:

  • Small Bag: Allows for checking in 1 bag weighing up to 33 lb/15kg.

  • Medium Bag: Allows for checking in 1 bag weighing up to 44lb/20kg.

  • Large Bag: Allows for checking in 1 bag weighing up to 55lb/25kg.

  • Extra-Large Bag: Permits checking in 2 bags weighing a total of 88 lb/40kg together.

According to the Aer Lingus baggage allowance’ the fees for checked baggage vary depending on factors such as the route, booking channel (online, call center, airport), and when the payment is made (during booking, after booking, or during check-in). Passengers can benefit from discounts of up to 50% by purchasing baggage online at the time of booking.

Additionally, there are certain restrictions and guidelines  to be aware of when booking checked baggage with Aer Lingus on Saver fares:

  • The maximum Aer Lingus checked baggage size is 158cm/62in in total (length + width + height), and the weight limit is 70lb/32kg.

  • Passengers can add up to 3 bags within their weight allowance, with no single piece exceeding 70 lb/32kg.

  • Purchasing an extra bag will not increase the total weight allowance but allows passengers to distribute the weight over multiple bags.

  • Failure to pre-book baggage in advance may result in additional charges at the airport, with fees applicable per kilogram beyond the initial allowance.

The routes within Europe are categorized into three groups based on distance: Near Routes, Mid Routes, and Far Routes, encompassing various cities and destinations across Europe.

Piece Concept Routes (Transatlantic)

What are the checked baggage charges on Aer Lingus flights to North America?

On transatlantic routes, which include flights to and from North America, Aer Lingus operates a checked baggage policy based on a per-bag concept. Here's how it works:

  • Saver fares do not include any checked baggage allowance and passengers must purchase baggage separately.

  • Smart and Flex fares include one checked bag weighing up to 50lb/23kg per passenger.

  • Business and Business Flex fares include three check  bags with a combined weight of 150 lb/69 kg per passenger.

Passengers can purchase excess baggage using three options: a 44lb/20kg bag, a 55lb/25kg bag, or a 66lb/30kg bag. The fees for checked baggage vary depending on the fare type and the weight of the bag.

For example, on online bookings, the fees range from €44.99 to €69.99 (or equivalent in USD/CAD) for a 44lb/20kg bag, and from €49.99 to €84.99 for a 66lb/30kg bag, depending on the fare type.

There are certain rules to follow for checked baggage on transatlantic flights:

  • The checked baggage allowance applies to all flights in the itinerary between the UK/Continental Europe and North America.

  • Passengers traveling together on the same booking can pool their baggage allowance.

  • Each passenger can book up to three checked bags, subject to the maximum weight and size restrictions.

  • Checked bags can be booked online up to two hours before departure at discounted rates.

  • Airport baggage fees apply if payment is made at the airport, with a flat fee for bags weighing up to 50lb/23kg and an excess baggage fee for bags weighing between 51lb and 70lb (24kg to 32kg).

  • All Aer Lingus baggage fees are non-refundable.

Excess Baggage Charges

If you exceed your baggage allowance on Aer Lingus flights, you will incur an excess baggage fee. The fee varies depending on your route. For flights within Europe, if you haven't pre-booked your baggage and need to check it at the airport, Aer Lingus will charge you for the first 44lb/20kg at the standard rate, then an additional fee of €10/USD 11 per kilogram for any extra weight. For transatlantic flights to or from North America, the excess baggage fee is €75/USD 100 per bag for bags weighing between 50-70 lb/23-32 kg.

This form needs to be sent to central.baggage-tracing@aerlingus.com within 21 days from the date you initially filed your report. Aer Lingus will use the information provided in this form to continue searching for your bag and handle any compensation claims. Additionally, according to IATA guidelines, it's advised to report missing baggage to the last airline you traveled with for assistance with late delivery, damage, or lost baggage issues.

How to seek reimbursement claims

To request compensation from Aer Lingus, follow these steps:

  1. Contact Aer Lingus and submit your claim through the Aer Lingus Guest Relations Department using the Post Travel Enquiry Form.

Note: Failing to report the damage within 7 days of receiving your bag may result in being ineligible for compensation for any damages.

Baggage Liability – Lost and Damaged Bags

If your baggage experiences damage, loss, or delay with Aer Lingus, excluding mobility aids, assistive devices, or wheelchairs, the maximum compensation you can claim per ticketed passenger is SDR 1,131, equivalent to approximately USD 1,628. However, if you believe that the contents of your checked baggage exceed this value, you have the option to declare a higher value for your bag and pay an additional fee before your journey. In such cases, you will be compensated based on the higher value you declared, provided all conditions are met.

Liquids, Aerosols, and Gels (LAGs) Restrictions

  • Liquids, aerosols, and gels must be stored in containers of 3.4oz/100ml or less.

  • Examples of these items include soups, beverages, creams, toothpaste, perfumes, sprays, and similar products.

Duty-free Purchases

Duty-free purchases are governed by the regulations applicable to liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs). Each individual item must not be more than  100ml (3oz) in volume. To streamline the process, passengers traveling internationally should purchase duty-free items during their final flight segment to avoid passing through additional security checkpoints.
